Nirvan takes pride in his work ethic and it truly shows in the final product, along with one of the most talented, Nirvan is also one of the most consistent directors, dropping new videos weekly. But enough of us talking, we’ll let Nirvan tell you all about it…
Q: Who are you?
A: My name is Nirvan Sorooshian, I go by DotComNirvan on the internet. I’m 22 years old, from Sacramento California, and I direct music videos.
Q: How did you come up with your name?
A: The real context hasn’t even been revealed yet tbh. It has to do with a company I’m about to launch so it will all make more sense soon. One thing i can say is that the “Dot Com” makes it easier to pronounce my first name. People have trouble with that all the time haha.
Q. If you could describe your music videos in one word what would it be and why
A: Fast, because by the time it’s over the viewer has to hit replay to catch elements they missed.
Q: Where do you find inspiration?
A: The underground. All the kids making music, beats, clothes, videos, everything. There’s so much talent in the scene and It makes me proud, and inspired, to be apart of it.
Q: How did you get into shooting music videos as well as animation?
I was at a university for journalism and it suuuucked. It was really fun but I didn’t feel challenged, school was too easy and it didn’t engage me. I skipped class for two months making a video called “All The Time 2” for this artist Wintertime. Once his management said they’d use it for the video, I dropped out and just started dming people on instagram to shoot.
Q: Do you only see yourself shooting music videos in the future?
A: No, there’s honestly a million things I want to do and it overwhelms me every day. I want to be a music executive, I want to create TV shows, I want to direct films, I want to write children’s books, I want to do a lot of shit.
Q: Where is one location you’ve always wanted to shoot at and why?
A: Hmmmm this is a good question. I don’t think there’s like some super nice location I’d want to shoot at, like Hawaii for example. To me, the grimier the better. So I’ll say Atlanta, wherever Young Thug is trying to shoot haha.
Q: Are you only into hip hop and rap? If not, can expect to see any music videos for other genres?
A: I’ve done one or two videos for other genres before but honestly rap is the only one I care about. If a song comes along that I really love, I’ll do the video. But these days every rap song is like its own genre, and the word genre carries less and less weight. So it’s more of a song by song basis. I do really like Morrissey, Pink Floyd and Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Q. What makes you happy?
A: Putting talented young people in positions to succeed, building an audience, boolin with the gang and spending time with my family.
Q. Where should we expect to see DotComNirvan in ten years?
A: As a renowned music video director and director period, with an audience so strong that any creative endeavor I choose is an automatic success.
Thanks for the interview! Love.
